Probably the most interesting thing in Declan McCullagh’s latest CNET article is the factoid that Outback Steakhouse has a PAC, and they spent as much (almost exactly) for political action as did Microsoft.
But that’s not to sell the article short. McCullagh mentions some motion in a couple of politically minded tech organizations, and discusses some other ways to influence politics besides simply paying the extortion money that is political contributions.
“I’ve had the attitude that giving money to the bastards in Washington who gave us these problems is the wrong approach,” [John] Gilmore says. “That seems to be their game: We create problems and then take money from you to solve them.”
