On Africa and Agriculture

Inspired by a recent Op-Ed piece in the New York Times (written by the presidents of Mali and Burkina Faso), Tim Bray has written a lengthy and heartfelt discussion of the inhumanity of the economics of agriculture in the “western world”.
Bray’s outlook is informed by the fact that he has family members who are farmers in Canada, but also that his late father spent his career working in “third world” countries doing agriculture education.
In light of President Bush’s current “interest” in Africa, anyone who follows international affairs ought to read these two pieces.
