Over on MetaFilter they’re talking about “American Straight Whiskey”, which I guess is the officially correct way to include both Kentucky bourbon and Tennessee whiskey in a single phrase.
Just last night I was thinking of blogging about the pleasures of the heft of a Knob Creek bottle when you pour it. People on the Metafilter thread bemoan its cost, but last time I was at the store, it was only $2 more than Maker’s Mark. I’ll take either one, neat, or with a few cubes of ice—”on the rocks” is always too much ice unless you drink it very quickly.
I have been meaning to check out George Dickel, though, after reading an Onion interview with former spokesman Merle Haggard.
Never knew you were the bourbon/whiskey enthusiast, Joe. I myself have never been able to enjoy the stuff. My mouth wouldn’t know good stuff from turpentine…
I kind of remember liking Blanton’s quite a bit as well, but we’ve been having more Scotch than Bourbon this winter. Mmmmmmm, Laphroaig.
