WNUR Jazz Show, June 17 2004

Today marked my first day back on the air since I left Northwestern in 1999. I’m happy to say that in general, WNUR hasn’t changed much. The current rack-mounted disc players are less friendly than the old Tascam ones. There are now two PCs in the studio (plus the one that manages and monitors the transmitter); one of the PCs is wired into the sound board and is used to play PSAs. I guess the other one is just for internet access.
As usual, I didn’t really premeditate the program very much. I threw a handful of CD’s I’ve been enjoying in my backpack and relied (a bit too much) on the new releases drawer, since it’s so quick to browse them.
For those who aren’t familiar with WNUR, the programming is traditionally laid out in genre-blocks, which is somewhat uncommon for college radio. Since 5:00 am – 7:30 am is about the only time I can get to Evanston to DJ, I’m doing a “jazz” show. Well, that and the fact that I was involved in the “jazz” show for about ten years while I was first a student and then an employee of Northwestern University.
