For some reason, today’s show was not very inspired. I didn’t have a bunch of music I came in planning to play, and I wasn’t hitting on a bunch of exciting discoveries in the library.

I did get a chance to play an odd and interesting little track that’s been recurring on my iPod lately, “Zawinul’s Bolero”. It comes from a compilation of Swiss improv and it has a kind of ambient meets 70′s Miles Davis feel, no doubt in part because of François Lindemann’s Fender Rhodes playing.

It’s a familiar song, but Charlie Haden’s bass line introducing “Law Years” still gets me pretty excited. I guess in fairness, Big Maybelle’s version of “Candy” is one I was pretty happy to put on the air. She really lays it down sweetly (no pun intended).
