WNUR Jazz Show, 23 December 2004

Last week’s show featured just a couple of holiday songs; I thought there might be a few more, but it just didn’t flow that way.
I’m in the midst of a biography of Charles Mingus (which is available as a cut-out at Jazz Record Mart and a lot of remainder book shops). I had just read about Mingus’ stint in the Red Norvo Trio, so was happy to be able to look that up. Some of the tracks I previewed were a bit corny, but “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” was dreamy and mysterious and quite nice.
I was extremely happy to see (more than a year late) that Roscoe Mitchell’s “Snurdy McGurdy” has been reissued on CD, so I featured the title track (and picked up my own copy at the JRM this week.)
