Common Cause, a nominally non-partisan but left-leaning organization, has announced a partnership with Governor Schwarzenegger to “put an end to California’s failed system for drawing Congressional and state Legislative boundaries.” They’re also going to target Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Texas.

It’s certainly a goal I applaud, as I find partisan districting one of the nastier distortions of democracy in our system. The comments are full of totally scandalized reactions from people who declare Schwarzenegger totally untrustworthy. Looks like it’ll be a rough ride for Common Cause, even before they face off the entrenched politicians who benefit from the current model.
