Henry Grimes and Marshall Allen paid a visit to WNUR later the night of this show, so I played a track from Don Cherry’s “Symphony for Improvisers” in honor. I have also been pretty excited recently about this Bill Ware album, “Sir Duke,” which pairs his vibraphone with Marc Ribot on electric guitar playing Duke Ellington tunes.

I also found a handful of nice LPs to play, including a Baden Powell album and Pete La Roca’s “Turkish Women at the Bath.”

For the first time in while I got a few phone calls; one guy called up appreciating the Lou Rawls tune “Blues is a Woman,” as well as the Air tune which preceded it; I got two calls about Herbie Hancock’s “Rain Dance,” which I actually played during an “extra innings” segment, as the next DJ was about twenty minutes late.
