Today’s show was fun, and fairly random. I got a kick out of the Billy Taylor Trio’s take on the music of “My Fair Lady” and Baby Face Willette’s organ take on “Whatever Lola Wants” (from “Damn Yankees”).

Swinging to the other side of things, today’s show got a bit freer than they have been lately. While I listen to that kind of music a fair bit, and its not uncommon for WNUR’s idea of a “jazz” show, it just doesn’t always make it into my playlist. I quite liked the Trevor Watts/Veryan Weston duet album. Then there were a pair of Braxton tunes, although not the free-est of his book. Great fun, though. I was also pleased to stumble across Yusef Lateef’s take on Oscar Pettiford’s “Oscalypso,” which I had only come across in its original form a few weeks ago.
