Last week WNUR’s jazz show dedicated the entire week of programming (more or less) to the music of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). The organization was founded in May, 1965 and celebrated its fortieth anniversary with a number of performances and other events.

Smithsonian continues to reissue great Mary Lou Williams music. The exploration of Barry Altschul’s solo output continues as well. I don’t have a copy yet, but Atavistic is releasing another Fred Lonberg-Holm trio album in early May, so I wanted to tap back into his first release, which is really excellent.
