I saw this in the New York Times:
Less promisingly for Take-Two, the British Board of Film Classification yesterday effectively banned another game developed by its Rockstar Games unit, which is also responsible for Grand Theft Auto. The board refused to issue a rating for Manhunt 2, citing its extreme violence. The denial of a rating makes it illegal to sell the game in Britain.
I wonder what other games are illegal to see in Britain, and how successful they are at blocking it. (I can’t imagine that they are very successful.) I assume it’s also illegal to purchase a copy outside of Britain and have it shipped in?
For a less scandalous easter egg than the notorious “hot coffee” they could put an interlude in GTA IV in which you, the player, hijack a shipment of Manhunt 2 games and take them down to the dock to deliver to a smuggler. Maybe we could develop it into an exclusive download for the Playstation 3 version of GTA IV? I’d let it go for less than $25 million.
(As an aside, I was interested to learn from Wikipedia that Philip Glass is involved in the soundtrack to GTA IV! Between that and Scrubs, he is poised to come back like the next Johnny Cash…)
