Good Reads: YABOSNS

Something curious is going on with the social reading site Good Reads. After being invited by Heath, who I can reliably expect to find on all of these things, I signed up and imported my address book. The only two “hits” I got were people who I have never seen on any SNS anywhere! And today I got “friended” by another person with whom I haven’t been in contact for years and who I’ve never found on any of these sites. (Although in this case it would appear that I didn’t have her current email in my address book, so if I go back, I may find her on them.)

What is it about Good Reads that draws this other group of people? How many other kinds of “islands” are out there on the internet?
P.S. (If you couldn’t expand YABOSNS, it stands for “yet another book-oriented social networking service.”)

P.P.S. I went off for quite a while on the problem of continually re-keying my book interests yet again, but I decided to hold off on that until I could figure out if I actually had anything interesting to contribute.
