The 30th Chicago Jazz Festival is starting this week so I took the opportunity to play a few things connected to artists on the bill, namely Sonny Rollins, Amina Claudine Myers, Ornette Coleman, Dave Douglas, and Vijay Iyer. I have to say this year’s schedule is much more to my taste than many recent years… I roped in a caller with the Cuban/Afro set near the end (Trio Lissabet/Kiko Kids Jazz/Jim Lasco) but I couldn’t sustain that many short songs without having pulled more stuff. I really don’t know how the DJs do the hardcore punk shows.
