WNUR Conference of the Birds, 2010-08-31 (Songs about Food)

“Conference of the Birds” is my weekly radio program on WNUR-FM. It airs on Tuesdays from 5-7:30 am Chicago time (UTC-5). And, of course, when technology cooperates, you can just come here for the archives.

This week’s show begins with a set inspired by shuffle-play on my iPod on the way to the station, but then turned full-bore into a food-themed program, beginning with two recipe songs. (I love how the musicians in each tune respond by adding their instrument as it is called for in the recipe recitation. Know other songs in this style?)

I ended up playing out the theme completely, even though I’d selected a goodly amount of other stuff I was interested in playing.  I’ll just bring that next week!

Two tracks were from commercials:

I also enjoyed considering the wide variety of interpretations of the latino alternative to mirepoix known as sofrito. Now to find some places to taste those.  (Be warned, listeners told me the show made them hungry!)
