This week’s show is “Africa Hot,” inspired by last week’s steamy climes. It features the kind of African music designed for people who are trying to have a good time but also trying to stay cool. Of course that music evolved as part of the grand back-and-forth of cultures carried on the currents of the Atlantic Ocean, so we also play some calypso and other stuff from the Caribbean. Certainly stuff you’ve heard on Conference of the Birds before, but this week we’re all in on it.
Alas, the archiver went south again this week, in yet a new way. Only the first 45 minutes were recorded before the network got clogged up, or something. As in past weeks, I sequenced together the missing music. In exchange for my inter-song chatter, which is missing from that section, you get the entirety of the 18-minute Dr. Sir Warrior track, instead of the excerpt I aired. The “synthesized” show begins after the introduction to “Calypso Blues.”
Enjoy!
