WNUR Conference of the Birds, 2013-01-08

“Conference of the Birds” is my weekly radio program on WNUR-FM. It airs on Tuesdays from 5-7:30 am Chicago time (UTC-6). And, of course, when technology cooperates, you can just come here for the archives. You can subscribe to the podcast with this URL (click here to subscribe in iTunes).

OK! After a long break on account of the holiday season and a sick day (and one show which still hasn’t been posted but will be), Conference of the Birds arises phoenix-like for 2013.

My friends Mark and Noah came by the studio to soak in the jazz ambience, and Noah brought some music to play, so you can thank him for the Mingus, Rahsaan, and Bill Orcutt selections.

My playlist was dominated by my enthusiasm for the great DKV Trio box set Past Present, which I’d just heard about last time a show was posted. I picked up my own copy in December, and for today’s show I played one track from each of the seven discs to celebrate. (Actually, on-air, I screwed up coming out of Noah’s set and repeated one of the tracks I’d already played! But I fudged it around in the archive, a first for me. So much for the historical record, but it’s more interesting than a repeated track. I didn’t bother trying to change my on-air announcement of what was played, so don’t be fooled. What you hear on this after Bill Orcutt is from the Milwaukee 2011 show. It was actually not too hard to paste in the source audio using Audacity. I had to fool around a bit to get the levels to kinda match.)

Enjoy!
